2011 Nebraska Father of the Year Named

Marvin G. Weber of Arnold was honored as the 2011 Nebraska Father of the Year at the fifth annual "Celebration of Fatherhood" luncheon on June 16. Nearly 200 people attended the event at Embassy Suites in Lincoln.

Weber was nominated by his daughter, Devra McElroy of Cairo, Nebraska, who wrote of his selfless love for people, which stems from his deeply-held faith. A retired rural mail carrier, Weber remains active in the Arnold community by volunteering with his church, delivering Meals on Wheels and assisting several who need help with transportation needs. His steadfastness has helped the family through challenges and tragedies through the years, including two recent deaths. Mrs. McElroy said of her father, "I wouldn't have made it without him."

Ten other men were inducted into the Nebraska Fathers Hall of Fame at the luncheon. They are finalists Matthew Bruns of Hastings; Trent Chrisman, Dan Schulte and Ron Zimmer of Lincoln; Steve Knapp of North Platte; Roger Peterson of Waterloo; Titus Staples of Bridgeport; Nate Tedrow, Sr., of Kennard; James Wagner of Riverton; and John Woitaszewski of St. Paul.
